At times I can be naive. It is not that I am stupid or inexperienced. I just hope for the best in others because I always do my best by others.
Of course, that golden rule is one many people do not abide by. Some because they’re just jerks, and others because they’re not stable or able to care for themselves, much less another person.
And yes, I have found myself caught by surprise by another person’s actions. I have said, “I never thought X would do Y,” but still…Don’t be fooled.
I may be sweet. Vulnerable. Kind. Emotional.
I wear my heart on the
Outside.
But that doesn’t mean I don’t know when someone is playing me for a fool, hurting me, or trying to do the wrong thing.
Or, just because I am giving and open does not mean that that door is open forever, subjecting myself to an emotional beating by a friend, partner, stranger, or family member.
At some point, the door shuts. And I won’t let you in after someone has continually been unkind.
People like to throw this quote around: “Everything happens for a reason.”
Well guess what, not everyone and everything that comes into your life for a reason.
I disagree.
Sometimes people and situations come into our lives because we let them. And sometimes those people and situations are bad. At other times, we have no control over the person or scenario but when we do, we ought to be sure that we keep negativity and unkindness out.
So don’t be fooled. I may be sugar and spice and everything nice, but I am not stupid.
And I respect myself as a person to invite good things and people into my life. Sometimes those wonderful people don’t always stay around, but I will not invite enemies into my “home.”
I deserve better.
And so do you.
Virtual hugs, a kick in the ass, and a “You’re better than that”,
Laura
Just want to say: You are awesome and you Rock! Every post I totally get, laugh and love! Thank you!
Oh thank you so so much! I appreciate and could use the love 🙂 Thank you for reading! xoxoxo
Sounds like you have had a few lessons learned from these less than wonderful people. It’s a great realization to know when to ‘close that door’, one I think several of us take a long time to learn.
I take a long time to learn it too…I am getting better at it. The issue is I feel like everything is my fault. And it isn’t. That’s just not true! Thank you so much for reading 🙂
